Mikaela #24

Things have finally begun to quieten down around here. Took long enough, what with media clambering over one another to catch a glimpse and theorists competing to crack the code. None of them are right, of course. They like to over-complicate things.

With the quiet, we can finally focus on our work, and maybe work out what’s actually going on here.

An explorative drone goes missing in a supernova, and then suddenly eight months later just… reappears? Yash seems to believe this is revolutionary, and I agree. The potential is there, the possibilities of what this could mean. Have we stumbled upon a wormhole? Maybe something that would adapt our own interstellar travel? Or was it something we should have left undiscovered?

We’ve been keeping secrets, things that the public mustn’t know yet. The others think it to be too spectacular a find to let everyone know yet, I think it’s too concerning. One thing we have realised is that the model of the drone is different from the original. All the right bits and pieces are there; propulsion systems, scanners, probes. But, it’s as though it’s a replica created from memory. The inner circuitry is different, and the technology it does use is far more advanced than I’ve seen before. Even the serial number deep inside doesn’t match up.

The Confederacy has agreed to keep this under wraps, so Yash will keep us all working hard at the grindstone. If it were up to me, we’d have destroyed this thing the moment we spotted it. Especially since I found today that it’s still transmitting a signal, just no longer to us.

The Ended Saga is a collection of excerpts following the mysterious conflict in a universe beyond our own. No truth is clear, but it is out there. Continue the search…
